A few days ago, in Liubliana, Eslovenia, the 74th congress of the European Judo Union (EJU) was held, coinciding with the gala for the 70th anniversary of the Slovenian Judo Federation.
In a historical visit, Mr. Carlos Zegarra Presser, as president of the Pan-American Judo Confederation (PCJ) was invited to attend by Dr. Laszlo Toth, president of the EJU. During this visit, both presidents were able to have conversations in order to establish bilateral work and projects between the two continents.
This new relationship arises with the aim of developing a common agenda, in which the judo family from both continents have strategic development points for various needs, such as:
1. Training camps for cadets, juniors, seniors and veterans.
2. Volunteer program for the implementation of social judo in the most demanding and difficult to access areas.
3. Training and internship program for coaches and multidisciplinary teams.
Among many others.
"I feel very proud of this new stage for the bilateral treaties of our continents, I think we have a lot to learn and contribute, and it is these types of unprecedented events that bring us closer as a single judo family, even if our representation is from America or of European. For this reason, I want to thank President Tóth, who has made a difference by inviting me to one of his most important events, it is a reflection of mutual respect and consideration, ”said the president of the CPJ, Carlos Zegarra Presser.
It is important to note that in Europe, precisely in Budapest, the International Judo Federation, together with the CPJ, the EJU and the Hungarian judo federation, have "Casa Américas", where various athletes from the American continent have been training and preparing for events that take place in Europe. This will continue to be strengthened and work will continue with a view to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The PJC celebrates and thanks all the members of the EJU for this opening and ratifies the commitment of the parties for the benefit of all.
